Toronto is not one painting market, it is three. Lath-and-plaster walls
Anything built before roughly 1940 in the core is plaster over wood lath, not drywall. It cracks along seasonal movement lines and the plaster keys behind the lath let go with age. It needs re-anchoring and skim coating, not filler.

Lead paint below the surface
Pre-1980 trim in Toronto’s older housing frequently has lead in the lower layers. We do not sand into it. Where a stripping job would disturb lead, that work belongs to a certified abatement contractor and we will tell you so.

Filling the crack and painting over it gets you the same crack back next winter.
