Ontario’s humidity swing between a humid August and a dry, heated February makes framing lumber expand and contract measurably, and a rigid filler in a joint that wants to move will simply crack again along the same line. The fix is to cut the crack out, bed reinforcing tape across it, and build over the tape, so the joint can move without the surface splitting.

Sometimes. On a textured wall, a low-sheen wall, or a small patch away from a window, a spot repair and touch-up can genuinely disappear. On a smooth wall in a sheen above matte, particularly in raking light from a window, it will not, the patch will read as a subtle halo regardless of how well it is filled. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in rather than doing a spot repair you will be unhappy with.

Level 5 is a full skim coat of compound across the entire surface, which equalises the porosity and flatness of the wall so nothing telegraphs through. You need it when you have critical lighting, a large window casting raking light along a wall, or when you are using anything above a matte sheen on a wall with patchy history. For a standard eggshell bedroom wall, level 4 is the appropriate and honest standard.

We repair the damage, but we do not fix the source. Cut-back, replacement and stain-blocking are our work; the roof, the plumbing or the failed window seal that let the water in belongs to a different trade. Repairing the wall before the leak is fixed is money spent twice, so we will ask for confirmation that the source is resolved before we schedule.
