Stucco & Masonry Painting

Only if you are certain, because it is effectively permanent. Stripping paint from brick is expensive, rarely complete, and can damage the face of the masonry. That said, it is genuinely the right answer for brick that has already been painted, for mismatched additions, for badly stained brick, or where you want a dramatic change without re-cladding. What we will not do is let you make that decision without knowing it is one-way.

Because brick and stucco are designed to absorb moisture and release it back out. A standard exterior acrylic forms a relatively impermeable film that traps that moisture inside the wall, where it either migrates inward to your interior finishes or freezes and spalls the face off the brick. Vapour-permeable masonry coatings let the wall breathe while still shedding liquid water. It is a materially different product category, not a marketing upgrade.

Efflorescence, mineral salts carried to the surface by water moving through the masonry and left behind as the water evaporates. It is not a paint problem, it is a symptom telling you water has a path through the wall. Coating over it without addressing the source will simply push the problem somewhere less visible and more expensive. Common sources are failed mortar joints, a missing or damaged flashing, or grade sloping toward the house.

Hairline cracking, yes, an elastomeric coating has genuine crack-bridging capacity and will handle those. Structural cracking wider than about 3 mm, or cracking that steps diagonally across the wall, is telling you something is moving and needs to be assessed before it is covered up. We will point that out rather than paint over it.
