The local picture

Newmarket pairs a genuinely historic core, the Main Street conservation area and the streets around it carry 19th-century housing, with a broad ring of 1980s and 1990s subdivision growth that is now well into its second repaint cycle.

Housing stock

19th-century housing in the Main Street heritage area, 1980s–1990s subdivisions across the core, and post-2000 growth in the eastern and southern edges.

What shapes a Newmarket quote

  • 01

    Shorter exterior season

Northern GTA temperatures run cooler, especially overnight in spring and autumn. We book Newmarket exteriors tighter to the middle of the season.

  • 02

Heritage millwork in the Main Street area

Deep original profiles that thick film build permanently destroys. Careful hand prep preserves detail that cannot be recovered once lost.

  • 03

    Second-cycle subdivision repaints

1980s and 90s homes past their original finish, with accumulated trim layers and repair history driving the prep scope.

FAQ

Painting in Newmarket, answered

Is the painting season shorter in Newmarket than in Toronto?

Yes, meaningfully, by roughly a week or two at each end. Newmarket sits at the northern edge of the GTA and runs consistently cooler than the lakeshore, especially overnight in April, May, September and October. Since acrylic exterior paint needs sustained temperatures above about 10 °C including the overnight low to coalesce into a proper film, that shifts the safe window inward. In practice we treat June through early September as the reliable stretch here.

How do you protect original millwork in a heritage home?

By removing as little as possible and adding as little as possible. Deep original profiles get destroyed two ways: aggressive power sanding that rounds the crisp edges, and successive thick coats that gradually fill the detail in. So we prepare by hand, sand only enough to give the new coat a key, and apply thin, well-levelled coats rather than heavy ones. Where the profile has already been buried under many layers, careful stripping can recover it, but if that would disturb lead-bearing layers, that work belongs to a certified abatement contractor.

How much does painting cost in the GTA?

We do not publish prices, because a number quoted without seeing your walls is a guess. What decides the cost is ceiling height, how much trim you have, and the condition of the substrate, none of which can be judged from square footage. The walkthrough is free, takes about 45 minutes, and ends with a fixed written quote.

Do you provide free estimates?

Yes. The walkthrough takes 45 to 60 minutes, costs nothing, and carries no obligation. You receive a written finish specification within 48 hours that names every surface, its coat count, its primer decision and its sheen. We would rather you compared that document against other quotes than compared bottom-line numbers, because three painting quotes are usually three different scopes.

What areas do you serve?

The Greater Toronto Area, the City of Toronto including Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough, plus Peel, York, Durham and Halton regions. That covers Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Newmarket and Aurora. If you are inside the GTA, we quote it.
